"It’s no secret that someone in my position, someone who is blind...it’s very difficult to find a job in my situation. Wendy, the person at Star who took my case, was wonderful. We worked together to find the right fit. We definitely found it here at PMC. I honestly could not have asked for a better group of people."

Similar to an internship, an ALE allows people with disabilities to work at a business for a set amount of time, letting them explore a job before finding long-term employment. These opportunities will enhance a person’s job exploration experience, and for some, allow them to have their very first paid position.
The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides funding to Star Community to hold the ALE. Star uses this funding to pay the employee's salary and provide the person with workplace support. The employee works for up to 12 weeks for the employer, with Star working to make sure there is a mutually beneficial relationship between the employer and employee.
People with disabilities bring diverse talent, skills, and abilities to your workplace, along with increased employee and workplace satisfaction. With options for customized job positions, hiring a person with a disability can be as beneficial for an employer as it is for the employee.
