The Job Coach/DSP will perform the functions of a job coach as needed. When not acting in the role of a job coach, this position will be assigned to DSP (Direct Support Professional) duties. As a job coach, you are responsible for providing 1:1 support to a person receiving Employment Services while on the job and during transport. This position would include job coaching, employment skills training, and advocacy aligning with employment guidelines. A Job Coach will work as part of a team to provide people with gainful and successful employment.
Minimum Qualifications: · High school diploma or GED required. Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE certification) for Supported Employment or able to obtain with first 365 days of start of position. Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) or able to obtain with first 365 days of start of position. Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus but not mandatory.
Must have the ability to walk, stand, sit and crawl. Must be able to lift and transfer 50 lbs. Must have the ability to work in a variety of settings that may change frequently. This position requires the availability for flexible work schedules. Must have basic computer skills or the ability to learn. A valid driver’s license that meets the requirements of Star’s insurance company is required. Must be able to speak and write proficiently in English.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Train those receiving Employment Services to perform job tasks as determined by the employer’s specifications.
- Assist in creating relationships for natural supports within the workplace of those receiving Employment Services.
- Develop and follow task-analyses to maintain consistency in job performance.
- Facilitate travel training to and from the workplace when necessary.
- Track and maintain employment data required for goals, billing, attendance, DORS and grants.
- Complete all documentation as required.
- Successfully complete all DDA required trainings upon hire and maintain all required annual trainings. Will also complete other agency and person-centered trainings as required.
- Model appropriate social skills, work ethics and procedures to the employee.
- Attend staff meetings/in-service days as required.
- Assist with activities of daily living, as needed, while promoting the achievement of a person’s highest level of independence.
- Implement behavior support plans and document accordingly.
- Administer medications and delegated nursing functions as required.
- Respect the rights of the people served, including honoring their privacy when providing personal care, and always treating people with dignity and respect.
- Ensure a positive environment and honor individual preferences.
- Provide safe transportation services via Star Community and/or personal insured vehicle.
- Communicate effectively with people supported based upon their abilities.
- Promote independence in the workplace for the person employed
