FUNDRAISING EVENT RAINED OUT

Hagerstown, MD -- Due to inclement weather, the condition of the C&O Canal towpath with some parts virtually impassable and weather forecasts predicting even more rain for Washington County, the “Got Wheels – then Ride” fundraising event for Star Community, Inc. (formerly Anita Lynne Home) scheduled for Saturday, June 21 has been postponed until October 4, 2003.

“It is important for us to ensure the safety of the participants in this event and also their enjoyment. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we can guarantee neither. We sincerely hope everyone will join us on October 4 as we attempt to raise awareness and raise revenue to support the continued operation of our therapeutic riding center and regret the inconvenience this may cause,” commented Sharon Landis, Executive Director at Star Community.

Participants are encouraged to mark their calendar for October 4, the official “rain date” for this event. All participants who secured pledge money with the intent of turning in these donations on Saturday, June 21 should now mail their forms with pledge money to Star Community at 13757 Broadfording Church Road, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21740. We at Star Community will reach all generous donors by mail to express our appreciation for their support.

If there are any questions, or comments, individuals are encouraged to contact Star Community at 301-791-0011. Thank you.

GOT QUESTIONS?

Question: Will the event be rescheduled?

Answer: Yes, Got Wheels is rescheduled for Saturday, October 4. Mark your calendar. You will receive a letter with more detailed information. We plan on taking the time to make the event even bigger with more entertainment and prizes. The ride will begin at 8 am at Hancock with the picnic, BMX shows, other entertainment and prize drawings between 11:30 and 1 pm and conclude around 2 PM.

Question: Does the event have a rescheduled date?

Answer: Yes, the date is confirmed for Saturday, October 4 with the same starting point at Hancock and the picnic at Williamsport RiverBottom Park

Question: Why is the event scheduled for early fall?

Answer: This was the first and best date for Got Wheels to be rescheduled. We had to obtain permits for the use of the C&O Canal, in Hancock, Fort Frederick and Williamsport and consider other local agency and community events.

Question: What happens if it rains on October 4?

Answer: Let’s pray it doesn’t but if it does we will have a rain plan announced through future mailings that keep you well informed. Also, our newly designed and updated website should be up soon so go to www.starcommunityinc.org and check for regular event updates.

Answer: We ask if you will mail collected pledge money with your pledge form filled out in its entirety to Star Community (give address) and we will notify each of your donors with a letter of appreciation.

Question: Can I still collect pledges on top of what I have collected already?

Answer: Absolutely, but please forward your pledge form filled out in its entirety and collected pledge money to Star Community (give address) anyway. If you need more forms you can go to our website and download a copy of the pledge form.

Question: I don’t have the capability of download – how can I get more pledge forms?

Answer: If you have a fax I can fax to you or let me take your address and I’ll slip one in the mail.

Question: What do I do if people pledged money but were waiting for me to ride Got Wheels before contributing?

Answer: Good question. If you have the pledge form filled out with the person(s) name, address please forward so we can send them a letter informing them of the change in date and why.

Question: I’ve raised $500 or more – can I collect ahead of time for the Free 8-weeks of riding lessons at Star Equestrian Center.

Answer: Yes, but it will be very important for you to send in your pledge form and pledge monies so we can not only write your donors but send you a formal letter of invitation to utilize the bonus of Free Riding Lessons.

Question: I’ve raised my $100 or more – when will I receive my Got Wheels T-Shirt.

Answer: T-shirts will be given out during check-in on October 4.

Question: I am a sponsor of the event and haven’t paid yet. Should I wait or do you want my company to send in the check now.

Question: I’d like to sponsor Got Wheels – what do I do? OR I’d like to place an ad in Got Wheels Event Program – what do I do?

Answer: That’s great! Let me take your name, address and phone number and the Event Coordinator will be in touch with you.

Question: Some of my contacts have given cash – I’m not comfortable mailing cash what should I do?

Answer: The best way to handle that is to deposit the cash in your checking account and write a personal check for that amount. Or, if you prefer stop by Star Community and see me and I’ll take care of it and give you a receipt.
