Over forty years ago, Richard and
Audrey Tebbs gave birth to their third child, a baby girl who they named
Anita Lynne. While her siblings were happy and healthy, Anita Lynne was
born with profound disabilities including cerebral palsy and mental retardation.
Instead of institutionalizing their
young daughter which was customary at that time, the Tebbs transformed
their personal tragedy into a cause for celebration and founded the Anita
Lynne Home in 1970 a place that had the warmth and closeness of
family coupled with a staff skilled in teaching mentally retarded children.
And it was their vision to do all of this in a Christian atmosphere.

Today, Star Community remains true to that vision. What began as a home for four young children is now a vibrant, growing organization. Today it is a community comprised of 9 separate and distinct residences on 145 acres, complete with a greenhouse, an indoor swimming pool, a nature trail, a fishing pond that is completely wheelchair accessible and a therapeutic riding center. In addition, Star offers a comprehensive range of residential and day program options, all of which are based in faith and executed with love and respect for the individuals served.
In the nearly 40 years since the organization was founded, Star Community Inc. has emerged as a true leader, offering innovative programs and services to the 36 adults who now call Star home."
