horseback riding for all

Star Equestrian Center

The following is a touching note sent to us by the aunt of an autistic rider.

To all the angels at STAR Equestrian Center,
This letter of thanks comes to you from deep in my heart. On behalf of my nephew, I would like to thank you for the amazing work you’ve done. My nephew not only loves his work at STAR, he is proud of it. I’m not well spoken about Autism, but I know emotions are hard for him– but he speaks proudly of his work and awards won with your help! Your center has given my brother-in-law a venue to be intimately involved in his son’s life, where otherwise Autism would be a "wall." Thank you for this life changing opportunity you have afforded my family. My love of them is immense, but my respect and gratefulness for your work is doubled!

The horse has inspired awe and admiration in humans for centuries. It’s tremendous power, and willingness to serve, enables horses and humans to form a meaningful bond of trust. The horse is an amazingly intuitive animal, who judges all humans unconditionally. It is this capacity that allows equines to literally “lift” the human spirit. STAR Equestrian Center opened in 1998 following a 10-year vision for equine therapy in Western Maryland. Star has 501c3 non-profit status. The center focuses on the importance of individualized programming and safety for each rider through initial riding assessments.  Over the past 11 years, center staff have continued to learn and grow.  Currently the center serves abled and challenged riders in many types of equine activities. STAR is accredited through Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) and is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) operating center.
